A recipe to make Superendolysins for the efficient eradication of Clostridia species

Meijers 0012 pptWe are pleased to welcome Pr. Rob Meijers from European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Hamburg, Germany on the 4th World Congress on Targeting Infectious Diseases dedicated to Phage Therapy. During this congress Pr. Meijers will talk about a recipe to make Superendolysins for the efficient eradication of Clostridia species.

According to Pr. Meijers, endolysins are proteins produced by bacteriophages at the end of the phage cycle, to lyse the bacterial cell wall of the host. Recombinant  endolysins can be used to lyse Clostridia cultures, but they have sofar not been very efficient. Pr. Meijer's team has found that some endolysins are regulated by an internal genetic switch that regulates endolysin  activity. They are looking for partners to apply this knowledge to produce more efficient endolysins that can be used as a new tool to eradicate unwanted colonization by Clostridia.
